An open letter from my client Sabrina, to anyone who is struggling with their fitness journey...
January 3, 2015
My weight loss journey started about 2 ½ years ago. I was at the highest weight of my entire life, 260 pounds. I had tried numerous times to get motivated to eat right and exercise, but lacked the support necessary to keep going. When I got engaged, I finally decided that enough was enough and it was time to change for good, not only for me but for my fiancé and my family. I started going to Zumba a few nights a week with my mom and my friend Amy started talking to me about joining the gym she worked at to give it a try. I had a lot of anxiety about joining a gym, out of embarrassment and fear of failing. Amy was very supportive and told me she would be there for me and help me every step of the way. Once I joined, I met a lot of people struggling with the same exact things as myself. I started working out with different groups and weighing in weekly.
Amy taught me things about nutrition, exercise, and balance. I had to learn how to change every habit I had in life. I started tracking every single thing that passed my lips. I changed what I ate, as well as how much I ate and how often. I gave up soda, a lot of processed foods, and eating out. I now prepare my breakfast, lunches and snacks weekly to pack and take with me to work. I began to work out about 3 times a week. Amy showed me numerous different workouts, from cardio to weight lifting to yoga and Pilates. It was hard and there were days I definitely wanted to give up. However, I slowly saw changes, small ones at first, but noticeable. Normal things in life started to become easier, like walking through the mall without experiencing fatigue, shortness of breath, or pain in my feet and legs. My clothes started to fit differently and I noticed that although gradually, the numbers on the scale started to drop. I started feeling more confident and people began to notice that I was changing. In 2 ½ years I have lost 60 pounds and have gone from a size 22 to a size 12.
But my journey isn’t over. As well as continuing to lose weight and tone my body, I have now gained the knowledge to maintain my healthy lifestyle. Amy has always given me the right type of support and stood by me through my entire journey. She has never yelled at me or tried to pressure me to do anything. She is always positive and committed to helping me any way she can. She has truly changed my life in the best way possible and I owe her everything. Thank you, Amy!!!!! <3
